About us

The Copper Lantern

The Copper Lantern is a modern British restaurant and private dining room in Bristol — open-fire cooking, a short seasonal menu and a serious wine list.

Our story

The Copper Lantern began in 2017 in a former ship chandlery on Welsh Back, with eighteen covers, one wood grill and a menu written on a chalkboard each morning.

The chalkboard has gone, the grill has not. We still write the menu around what the farms and the day boats actually have, and we still name every supplier on the page.

Two AA rosettes later, the ambition is unchanged: cook a small number of things extremely well over fire, pour wine we genuinely like, and let people stay at the table as long as they want to.

What we stand for

Short menus

Six starters, six mains. Everything cooked to order, nothing held under a lamp.

Seventy miles

Nearly all produce is sourced within seventy miles, and we name the farms on the menu.

Fire first

One oak-fired grill and a wood oven. No induction shortcuts on the main line.

Unhurried service

Your table is yours for the evening. We would rather turn fewer covers and do it properly.

The best meal we've eaten in Bristol, and we've eaten a lot of them.
